About Us
Neil Kanning grew up in Lawson, Missouri and graduated from Lawson High School in 1987. While in high school his life’s ambition was to be a lift chair operator at a Colorado ski resort. At his parent’s recommendation he decided to go to college first. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. More importantly it is where he met his future wife, Jennifer. Following college, the ski bug was still with him, so he packed up his car and moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to teach ski lessons. After one winter in Colorado, Neil and Jennifer got married. Shortly after their wedding Neil and Jennifer returned together to Steamboat for a yearlong honeymoon of skiing and camping. It was at some point during the second winter that he realized he had already met and exceeded his life goals (instructors outrank lift chair operators) and life had more to offer. After talking it over with his wife, they decided to return to school so he could get his dental degree.
Dr. Kanning attended dental school at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry (Roll Tide) where he graduated second in his class and with honors in 1998. Following dental school graduation his dental career took he and his wife across the country and globe. He completed a U.S. Air Force A.E.G.D. (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. It was during this residency and during his three years stationed in Germany that he developed his enthusiasm for orthodontics. After completing his Air Force commitment, Dr. Kanning returned to the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and completed his Orthodontic residency in 2004. He has a masters degree in orthodontics.
Growing up the son of a dentist, Dr. Kanning always knew the many benefits of being a dentist from the family side, but he never imagined how rewarding a career in a dentistry would be professionally. Dr. Kanning enjoys helping patients of all ages achieve the smile of their lives.
In his free time, Dr. Kanning enjoys camping, hiking, biking, skiing, Apple computers, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Dr. Kanning and his wife Jennifer have three children, Jake, Isabelle and William. The Kannings live in Liberty and attend Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Dr. K loves what he does. What better job could there be? He gets to help people achieve the smile they desire, while promoting better oral health. He enjoys meeting people and getting to know them as they go through their orthodontic treatment.
He's surrounded by a fantastic team who make the days for special for Dr. K and his patients.
Dr. Kanning attended William Jewell College for his undergraduate degree. He obtained his dental degree (D.M.D.) at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Alabama and his Masters degree in Orthodontics from the University of Iowa. He is very active in his profession and has served as president of the Greater Kansas City Orthodontic Society and is currently the president of the Missouri Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. K and his family live in the Liberty community where his three children attend school. He loves Apple computers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
